Prior to the late 1800’s Ambler was known as the Village of Wissahickon. It was renamed after Mary Johnson Ambler, a Quaker who helped lead rescue efforts during the Great Train Wreck of 1856. It was once a manufacturing destination which was a precursor to a long retail stretch on Butler Pike where today, ornately designed Victorian structures still stand. A thriving arts and culture scene combined with many local restaurants, bars and cafes makes Ambler quite popular among families and young professionals opting for a more suburban lifestyle. Cool, boutiques and one-of-a-kind shops abound with treasure.
